Rector

Peter W. Mayer is the 46th rector of St. Margaret's Church. He previosuly served as rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland, Rhode Island before beginning his ministry here in October of 2010. After graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2001, he served as associate rector at St. John's Episcopal Chuch, Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C. While in Rhode Island, he chaired the Diocesan Commission on Congregational Development. Currently in the Diocese of Maryland, he serves on a task force charged with allocation review. Husband to Allison and father to Sarah and Allen, Peter is an avid golfer and a follower of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins.

Stewart hails from Macon, Georgia and majored in Horticulture at the University of Georgia. Having been heavily involved in the Canterbury Center at the Episcopal Chaplaincy there, he followed a call to seminary directly after graduation. He graduated with Peter from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2001 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2002 at Memorial Episcopal Church in Baltimore. He was Associate Rector there working with children and youth and the newcomers and evangelism ministries. At St. Margaret's, he has served as the chaplain to St. Margaret's Day School and liaison to the  Newcomers Commission in addition to his work with communications.

James studied composition at Mannes College of Music in NYC and graduated from American University in Washington, DC. The City of Annapolis recently commissioned him to compose an oratorio celebrating the city's 300th anniversary. Additionally, he conducts the Heritage Harbour Chorus and has directed musicals for The Everyman Theatre in Baltimore and The Prince Theatre in Chestertown. Previously, he served at six other churches and accompanied the Billy Graham Crusade. He has given recitals or accompanied artists at the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the French Embassy and the Philips Collection among others.

Ruth has been the Parish Administrator at St. Margaret’s Church since 1987. She lived most of her life in Arnold, except for a few years when she was first married and lived in Georgia and Alabama.Ruth has been married to her husband Danny, an Alabama native, since 1976. They have three grown children and two grandchildren. Before working at St. Margaret’s, Ruth worked for the Attorney Grievance Commission in Annapolis and before that a law firm in Annapolis.

Parish Nurse

Tricia comes to St. Margaret’s with over 20 years of experience in the public and private fields of education. Having received her Bachelor’s degree in Education at Virginia Tech, she has continued her education and has her certification both in elementary and early childhood education. She sat on many school-based site committees and worked closely with curriculum development and adoptions for several state programs. In addition, Tricia has written and taught curriculum for Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. She has also started up and led many Girl Scout troops over the years. When not in the classroom, Tricia has kept up her skills through a private tutoring business.

Pat  has a Bachelor of Science in nursing, and a Masters of Science in general administration with a health-care focus. She has worked most of her career as a staff nurse in critical care areas and as a nurse manager in pre- and post-anesthesia care units, IV therapy and gastroenterology units. She was been St. Margaret's parish nurse for 13  years, five as a volunteer and seven as a paid member of staff. She is a member of St. Margaret's Women's Guild and serves as program chair. She has served on six Cursillo teams, one in Ghana and was Lay Rector for Maryland 74. She volunteers as a camp nurse for the Mini Week each summer at the Bishop Claggett Center and teaches CPR/First Aid classes to staff and counselors. She is also the Maryland liaison for the National Episcopal Health Ministries.

Laura is an Arkansas native and grew up as the daughter of a well-known journalist. She graduated from college as a music major, taught elementary school music for a year before moving into the area of education and public information with the Arkansas Governor's Office. She moved to Washington in 1992 and served as the Public Information Officer for the National Education Goals Panel and later moved over to the White House. Laura previously published a community magazine and website called Suburban Scene in Crofton and also served as a community news reporter for the Capital for several years. Before joining our staff, Laura was the editor of Broadneck Patch.

Associate Rector for Youth Formation

 

Sarah grew up in Lincolnshire, England, and received her undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management and Education Studies from Middlesex University in 2002. Following graduation, she spent a year as a youth worker for an inner city church in London and also as a support worker for the local university. Her three years of theological studies occurred at Westcott House, Cambridge (England) and at Yale Divinity School. Sarah was ordained a transitional deacon in July of 2006 and became a priest the following year. Her curacy was in the Handsworth Group of Parishes in Birmingham (England). She came over to America in August 2009 where she undertook a Clinical Pastoral Education Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. During this time, she was an associate priest at Philadelphia Cathedral.  She then served as the part-time Assistant Priest at the Church of the Advocate until coming to St Margaret's Church in October of 2011.
