OUR CHURCH
There are many fibers that have knitted together over three
centuries to create the community of St. Margaret's. Our table has
seated revolutionary fighters with agents of the Crown, slave owners
and abolitionists. Today soldiers, sailors and defense industry
employees share the bread and wine with peace activists, politicians,
artists and educators.
The fabric of St. Margaret's has been strained and repaired. It has
also grown stronger with new threads. It has wrapped in comfort the
shoulders of the defeated and the hurt and been raised as a banner to
celebrate God's wholeness, oneness, in our midst. God has supported
us through our struggles and helped us to restore our knitted fabric
when it frays, and we embrace the expansion of this cloth for
centuries to come.
April 18, 2010 Update
The Search Committee continues its efforts to find and recommend the next rector of St. Margaret's Church. It is our resposibility to find the best candidate to fill that position. Pursuant to the Charge of the Vestry that person should "have a Christ - centered focus in his or her ministry, a deep faith, and strong leadership and personal skills, in keeping with the skills and interests outlined in the Parish Profile." As a result, the Search Committee was directed to present to the Vestry a single candidate, with a full explanation of the reasons for presenting the candidate. The response has been impressive. We received a total of 112 personal profile applications from highly educated and committed clergy from across the United States.
We the carefully scrutinized the resumes and their written responses to our questions. After due consideration we reduced the number under active consideration on several occasions down to 13 candidates. Those 13 were individually interviewed by telephone conference during which we asked each candidate to respond to 4 previously prepared questions. Each interview took about an hour after which we further discussed the candidate and the answers given. Having recently completed those interviews we further reduced the number of active candidates under consideration to 8 candidates.
In light of the reduced number of candidates under consideration, we will now arrange for subcommittees of 3 committee members to personally visit and observe each of the candidates at his/her present church. After we have done that, we will further reduce the number of active candidates to 3 or 4 and will invite each of them to visit St. Margaret's for further interviews after which we will present our recommended candidate to the Vestry for consideration. We deeply appreciate your support in this process. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. The next several months are very important.
