September 29 October 27 November 24 January 26 February 23 March 23 (*note date change) April 27 What is Choral Evensong?
A treasure of the Anglican/Episcopal tradition, Choral Evensong is a traditional evening service based on the services held daily in the medieval Church, derived from the offices of Vespers and Compline. Found in the Book of Common Prayer, Evensong offers the congregation a meditative opportunity to escape the busy-ness of the world by gathering together to spend time in prayer and by listening and participating in music chosen to bring us into a deeper understanding of our faith. It allows both singers and worshippers to enjoy music not heard on Sunday morning. The choir sings the traditional evening prayers, while the congregation listens, joins in on the hymns, and adds their own prayers to those of the choir.
