Lent 2021

Ash Wednesday on February 17

In light of the pandemic situation, our Ash Wednesday offerings will be a little different. We will offer drive through Ashes to Go on campus (safely) from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Simply enter our campus parking lot and clergy will be ready to proceed. An Ash Wednesday service will be posted online that evening at 7:00 p.m. on our Facebook public page, YouTube Channel, and here on our website.

Lent Monday Evening Study

Join us for a Lenten Zoom Monday evening of study focused on Timothy Perry’s book Blessed is She: Living Lent with Mary. The book explores what Mary means through the life and death of the crucified and risen Jesus. The study will be held on Zoom on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. If you wish to participate, please email the Rev. Patti Sachs at patti@st-margarets.org.

Lenten 40 Day Prayer Challenge

We are offering busy SMC parishioners a simple yet effective way to honor the season of Lent in the time of Covid. Booklets have been created that will encourage participants to commit to offering prayers for a different group or topic each day in Lent. There will be booklets for individuals and for families. Whether it is during breakfast or dinner or bedtime, the booklet will have a prayer for every day (and illustrations for children to complete). Printed booklets can be found in the narthex.

Lenten Quiet Day

Join us for an intentional time of quiet refreshment, meditation and prayer on Friday, March 12, starting at 10 a.m.

To prepare for this two-hour journey, you’ll need to block out the time to do it and gather a few supplies. You’ll want a prayer space. You can make this space or perhaps you already have one. It should be a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. You can have
· a candle
· maybe some incense
· a book of reflections or meditations
· a journal or maybe some coloring pages
· your Bible
· perhaps some soft, soothing music.

We will spend two hours being focused on the presence of God - in our lives, in nature, in our midst. To really focus on God, we need to remove ourselves and as many distractions as we are able.

We begin on Facebook Live. Included in that, we will have 15 minutes of quiet meditation. Then, for the next hour and 45 minutes, you will do whatever you have planned (or not), but it should include some time in nature, some time reflecting or meditating and some time in quiet prayer. At the end of your session, come back to facebook Live to find some closing prayers.

That’s it! Doesn’t seem like much, but it will refresh and nurture your spirit. And it won’t have to be done at the time I originally post it. You can pick your own time. But please do! It is a way to enter Lent consciously and purposefully.
Blessings on your journey!
