St Margaret’s Church (Episcopal), Annapolis, MD is excited to announce the creation of an Organ Scholar/Sacred Music Internship for the 2022-2023 academic/program year.

Founded in 1692, St Margaret’s is one of the oldest continuously operating parishes in the United States and is among the largest in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Our Music Ministry is heavily committed to serving as a resource for musical education and formation in our parish, the greater Annapolis community and beyond. We have created this position to provide hands-on experience to a musician interested in a career in church music.

The ideal candidate would be a current undergraduate music major eager to further strengthen their choral conducting, service playing and music ministry management skills, though consideration would be given to someone who is a year or two removed from school.

Given the liturgical schedule of St Margaret’s Church, this position is flexible and would be tailored to the successful candidate’s specific skills and interests. Time commitment includes two Sundays per month (two services per Sunday) and one mutually agreed upon weekday on campus (roughly 10-12 hours per week), in addition to non-Sundays including Christmas Eve and Holy Week.

We are nearing completion of our new sanctuary organ custom built by the American firm Marshall & Ogletree, with dedication events scheduled for Fall 2022. The successful candidate would have unlimited usage of the sanctuary and music wing for practice.

Stipend is $12,000, which includes salary and a book allowance. The successful candidate must pass a background check and the Safe Church training per the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.

Deadline to apply is June 1, 2022, with an anticipated start date of September 2022. Please submit a resume/CV along with two references to Jim Douglas, Director of Music/Organist at music@st-margarets.org.
