Sewing Mission
A group of our parishioners have been producing much-needed masks, surgical caps and gowns for Anne Arundel Medical Center during this Covid pandemic. You can help in two ways - join this fun group and sew these medical supplies or donate to defray the costs of the supplies. To outfit a health care worker with a mask, cap and gown for cost is $40 or contribute $5 for a mask, $10 for a surgical cap or $25 for a surgical gown. The more that is contributed, the more we help our medical heroes on the front line! To volunteer to sew, contact Beth Kopack at [email protected] . To donate by credit card, please go to https://onrealm.org/smcannapolis/Give, choose missions, and then notate it is for the sewing mission or you can send a check to St. Margaret's Church ,1601 Pleasant Plains Road, Annapolis, MD 21409. Please note Sewing Mission on the memo line. |

Center of Help in Annapolis
Many immigrants have struggled knowing where to go for assistance for different issues. The Center of Help in Annapolis provides a one-stop-shop model which facilitates the accessing of services. This is helpful for families with limited transportation, education and economic resources. Services are provided free with a donation suggestion to the clients. SMC organizes teams of parishioners to volunteer at Centro de Ayuda to assist refugees and immigrants from Annapolis by teaching English, teaching citizenship, mentoring HS students, and supporting women's groups. If you wish to volunteer, contact Missions Chair Marti Engstrom to volunteer: [email protected]. |

Feeding the Hungry
St. Margaret's is fortunate to be able to support the hungry in our community through numerous sources. *Light House in Annapolis -- St. Margaret's has had a long history with the Light House organization in Annapolis. In 1989, Light House was started by local churches to help meet the needs of the homeless in downtown Annapolis after the Christian Workers Soup Kitchen on West Street was destroyed in a fire. To help fill the void left for housing for the homeless in downtown Annapolis, an immediate respite consisting of six cots were set up in the lobby of St. Anne's Parish House on Duke of Gloucester Street. Several weeks later The Light House, formerly known as Annapolis Area Ministries, Inc. (AAMI) became incorporated with a membership of six area congregations. St. Margaret's financially supports the organization annual and a member of the church serves on the organization's board. SMC volunteers provide meals to the shelter the fourth Sunday evening of the month. Contact: Marti Engstrom, [email protected]. *West Annapolis Pop Up Pantry -- This effort was started by Amy Marshall and Diana Love to address a gap in services for members of their Annapolis community who faced COVID-19 and food vulnerability without jobs, social services, or other financial support. Go to https://www.facebook.com/WAPantry/ for more information. The West Annapolis Pop Up Pantry collects food and funds to donate groceries directly to families in need. Distribution is now twice a month. We have partnered with Annapolis Community Foundation, a 501C3, to collect and distribute funding. (https://www.facebook.com/annapoliscommunityfoundation/). To volunteer, contact Barbara Marder at [email protected]. *My Brother's Pantry -- My Brother’s Pantry, located in Arnold on College Parkway, provides well-balanced, non-perishable food every month to those on the Broadneck Peninsula who need a little extra help making ends meet. Volunteers from area congregations (including SMC) collect donations, shelve food, and pack and distribute food boxes. Local churches take turns for one or two months each year managing all bagging and delivering food for approximately 150 local families. Volunteers are needed to collect, pack, and distribute the food items. Contact is Russell Jackson at [email protected]. *Holiday Dinners -- St. Margaret's has for years worked with the county's social services dept. to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to recipients in our local area. The church's Missions Commission provides the turkeys or hams and our congregation volunteers provide the other ingredients and deliver the donations to local residents. |

Homelessness - Winter Relief
From a place to sleep, to hot meals, to toiletries and warm clothing during the day, St. Margaret's is just one of 70 churches opening its doors to bring warmth and compassion to the homeless in Anne Arundel County each year. The Winter Relief Program of the Arundel House of Hope runs from October through April and is helping from 25-40 people per night stay out of the cold each winter. It's a labor of love for over 100 volunteers from St. Margaret's during one week in the winter. For them, helping those with nowhere to call home is a calling and a duty. From making two meals a day to being a welcoming host to transporting clients to work, there is a wide variety of jobs to do when the church hosts. If you wish to participate in our winter relief effort in 2022, contact coordinator Marti Engstrom at [email protected]. |
